Supergirl

I went and saw Supergirl yesterday. Here’s my quick review…it’s not horrible. It just doesn’t grab you. Millie Alcock is pretty good as Kara…the script is not great. Jason Mamoa is wasted. The use of Superman was wasted. Krypton the dog stinks, he’s just an out of control pain in the neck. Hopefully she gets a better script and director next time. The lighting stinks in this film as well. 2 out of 5 stars.

I had seen a lot of reviews and none of them were good. So admittedly I had set a low bar. The key for me was it didn’t grab me. From the beginning I wasn’t rooting for anybody in this movie. I wasn’t upset that Krypto was in danger. I really dislike that dog. The filmmakers seem to think an out of control dog is somehow funny, it’s not funny. Krypto is a dog, he isn’t supposed to somehow be a human equivalent intelligence. Kara hasn’t trained him in any way…it’s painful to watch. Kara is just a self pitying drunk at the beginning and she does go on a journey of self discovery but it’s a slog and requires another character with more nobility to persuade her by her actions. I guess she’s just not all that “super”.

In general I don’t think it’s boring per se, and it’s probably worthy of a watch when it hits a streaming platform.
